You WILL break the glass dome in the top of the shade. The dome floats in the top of the shade. You will turn the shade over when you assemble the light. It will crash to the floor and shatter.
Unless you see this review, which I hope you do. If you don't see this review, I hope you assemble it while on a carpet.
Otherwise, this is a beautiful and functional lamp, with (mostly) excellent engineering and construction.
